Grocery Assistant Manager
Position Summary
The Grocery Assistant Manager is responsible for coordinating the regular functions of the Grocery Department. This position is responsible for overseeing ordering and assuring appropriate inventory levels are maintained for the department. In addition, this position is responsible for supervising Grocery staff, which includes scheduling, evaluation and performance management. This position is a key member of a department where cooperation is required to maintain staff morale, efficiency, quality products and excellent customer service. Cooperation and communication with the Grocery Assistant Manager at the other store location is vital to the success of the Grocery department as a whole. Occasionally, this position takes on additional duties in order to substitute for the Department Managers absence, including direct interim supervision of department staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Purchasing:
Coordinate and facilitate ordering and inventory, keeping out of stocks and overstocks to an absolute minimum.
Ensure orders are received by department staff, following established procedures.
Ensure price changes are forwarded to appropriate contact.
Attend regularly held manager meetings.
Ensure product is ordered, delivered and credit received to meet customer demand and by following Product Selection Guidelines.
Monitor recalls with Grocery Manager to ensure products are removed, subsequent orders are checked and credits are received from suppliers.
Assist Merchandising Manager and Grocery Manager in maintaining the best possible product mix in all categories.
Assist Grocery Manager to place new products on the shelves and delete drops from the shelves as quickly as possible.
Financial:
Maintain an understanding of margin and turns and how to implement those numbers.
Provide leadership in quarterly inventory for Grocery department following guidelines of Store Manager.
Get credit from suppliers where applicable for returned or low-quality product. See that unsellable items are recorded and properly disposed of.
Merchandising:
Assist Merchandising Manager and Grocery Manager in planning and executing product displays, according to promotions and seasonality, making sure there is adequate product to build attractive displays.
Ensure attractive, consistent and readable signage.
Assist Merchandising Manager and Grocery Manager in planning department remodels and resets as directed.
Ensure that shelves, end caps and sale spaces are kept full and attractive.
Assist the Grocery Manager in ensuring that department equipment is kept clean and in working order.
Set stocking priorities for department staff and ensure these are met.
Provide product information for customers and staff.
Ensure sale tags are changed out by established deadlines.
Other:
Contribute articles to Thymes magazine, as needed by deadlines.
Assist with the creation and implementation of up-to-date policies and procedures for department staff and assistant management responsibilities.
Assist with the development and maintenance of department systems that are accurate, efficient and in the best interest of the store and the staff.
Assume responsibilities of the manager when they are on PTO or away from the store.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Merchandising Manager, Grocery and/or Store Manager.
Perform shifts as PIC (Person In Charge) on a weekly basis.
